Saltdean Lido, Brighton
Saltdean Lido is one of the finest remaining examples of modernist lidos in the UK being Grade 2 Listed.
Local residents have set up the Community Interest Company (CIC) and successfully secured a 60-year lease from Brighton & Hove City Council (the freeholders) to operate the lido site.
Delta Green have worked for the CIC since 2012 initially developing the masterplan for the site. The project has subsequently been split into several phases.
The building project commenced in 2015 and by Spring 2017 the swimming pool and children’s swimming pool will finally re-open to the general public. Delta Green have been involved in the Building Engineering Services within the pool plantroom and the provision of incoming statutory services to it.
With the wider project team Delta Green have being involved in the development of the design of the central building, which is Grade 2 listed. It has fallen into disrepair over the last few years. Delta Green has worked closely with Conran & Partners to develop the materials thermal performance requirements and the natural ventilation of the refurbished building and income from such technologies. Delta Green has evaluated sustainable technologies, detailing how these would be integrated and provided details of the buildings improved carbon footprint. The design of the building is currently at RIBA Stage 3 as the team continue to try and obtain an HLF grant for the projects completion. Subject to funding and planning applications, building works will commence late 2017 with an estimated re-opening date of 2020.
